Saturday - Sir 48,1-4.9-11 Ps 79 Mt from 17.10 to 13: Elijah has already come, and they did not recognize.
The prophet Elijah The two biblical passages of the liturgy found in the figure of Elijah their point of connection. The memory of his achievements and his strong personality full of admiration among the prophets, the author of Sirach which focuses listing all the wonders he has made to defend the true worship of God in the hearts and in society. He crowned his life with a prodigious prodigy, who was kidnapped in the sky on a chariot of fire and waited for the messianic times. His love for the true worship of God makes him worthy of being present in the fullness of time, when the same Jesus, Son of God, says that the spirit of Elijah is brought to life in St. John the Baptist. He is known as the prophet of fire for its fiery word, but also for having repeatedly called for fire on his sacrifice on Mount Caramel, the soldiers sent to arrest him ... His zeal for the glory of God, the people's fidelity to the covenant, his anger against the desecration of name of the Lord reminds us that the mission of Jesus came to bring the fire of his love for men, nurturing a keen desire that every heart will be infected. Unfortunately, as Elijah was persecuted, so will Jesus in a more cruel, more absolute in the refusal by the heads of its people, only happy when they see it hanging from the cross. May the Lord grant that this fire of love, loyalty and gratitude to our Savior come on in our hearts. He says: "Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come and eat with him and he with me." In the Eucharist our hearts open to Jesus, but not enough to receive a sacrament. And 'There must be transformed from its spirit and nourish us in his own feelings. Then it will be true communion.

Today's Gospel returns to the theme of the Baptist, in reply to a few disciples who said that before Elijah must come and then the other prophets. Jesus answers that Elijah has already come and people did not recognize, indeed have done the opposite of what he said the prophet Elijah. God first spoke through Elijah, Isaiah, Jeremiah and all the other prophets, now speaks through of John the Baptist, but who does not Elijah heard, not even listen the Baptist. After logiato the Baptist and Jesus spoke that what is being born is the Son of God and is destined to suffer lot, because of men.
It 's very interesting comparison the Baptist with Elijah, because makes us realize that not only Elijah, but also the Baptist went bankrupt in his preaching, so who was beheaded by King Herod. From the speech of Jesus, the disciples realize that speaks of John the Baptist, we hope that we understand the reference the passion of the Son of God and prepare well for Christmas which is now near .
