It took about a year and a half to review the five Orange County in our region. This time has been invested by the band to change the label and make a new album by some exalted and vilified by others in no uncertain terms.
Overall Atreyu's new album has left us satisfied in half, but this was by no means dented the esteem and affection we have for this band that we listen to for many years.
Adding to the interest of the evening was also the rest of the cast, namely the Americans and Swedes Still Remains Engel.
The first are well known because of their compelling debut and their second album swings, while the latter was intrigued to hear us because of the sound away from the fees that metalcore can offer.
Unfortunately we learned that the Swedish band would not be performed due to problems of sound waves goodbye ... and metal / industrial!
So, we jump straight to Still Remains whose task is to heat the room (still half-empty to be honest ...) for the headliners.
From the point of view of the ladder can not be denied them anything: fish wisely the best of Of Love and Lunacy The Serpent and the last. As a result, kids crowded below the stage may begin to warm up your voice with songs like The Worst Is Yet To Come, White Walls, The Wax Walls Of An Empty Room, Stay Captive the new single and dance-metalcore Dancing With The Enemy . The band plays the homework without smudging, shows caring toward the audience and eventually assume an attitude much less poser than I expected.
Too bad the public response is very weak ... in the end, the Still Remains have set fire to the room, but offered a decent performance that could pull in some more applause.
After forty minutes of the show ends and we all dive into the soundcheck before the Atreyu with a background of Madonna and Blondie (and here is surely the hand of Dan Jacobs and his "vague" obsession for years 80 :-)).
When the lights fall on my state of excitement rises dramatically because the Atreyu have one of the most powerful attacks in circulation between the intro to blows Fat Bottomed Girls by Queen and Bleeding Mascara devastating are already happy.
Here they are ours: with Brandon, more and more Big Belly, on drums, Dan, more and more nano, with its ESP with splashes of blood, Marc, orphaned of his red beard mileage, Travis, increasingly composed absurd and a shirt that read: I Love Gymnastic, Alex, and finally, more and more gym, ready to hop like a boxer with the tattoos and the most spectacular scene.
The registry change now than the previous show: more stage presence, charisma and above all, more than the public into a frenzy (now the Rainbow of Milan is full).
Atreyu know take the stage and entertain as they can draw from a wide repertoire that the crowd seems to know perfectly, and then choose a schedule that provides songs to about 50% taken from the new album and the rest from their previous jobs.
Atreyu-being related to the first version, it is obvious that on tracks like The Crimson and Right Side Of The Bed learned from the spectacular The Curse we split the girls as hypersensitive.
Everything goes well and the band has fun on stage, each playing its role tested: Alex screams to the audience, Dan pours solos, Marc wiggles and spins down everywhere, Brandan shows that has excellent voice Travis says his role and more formal. The five ferry vessel without losing their intensity and lead the public to the legendary exploits final Lip Gloss And Black . The I heard this song a million times, yet each time is spectacular and gives me a shiver behind my back and I think it's worth for others present at the Rainbow shouting with all their breath was the epic chorus: live! love! burn! die!
The lights are dimmed, the background music starts again and everything is unfortunately over.
If nothing else ... I have a certainty after the concert Bleeding Through this was the best of 2007.
INTERVIEW WITH ALEX Varkatzas
When I can refute a silly cliche we really enjoy. For years I read magazines that Alex has a bad temper, which refuses to be interviewed, etc. etc. ... all lies! After
few minutes after the conclusion of the live is just a few meters from the tour bus and is allowed to requests from fans.
What better occasion to give him a few questions on the new album?
The thing that obviously affects more of the new album is the fact that you do not scream anymore. You had to take singing lessons?
Alex: Yes, I had to take someone to learn to sing in a melody. More than anything else I needed to learn to do vocal exercises to train my voice. A teacher taught me some tricks and now I always go on tour with a cassette with all the vocals to do before a live.
Now that song so melodic you too, do you think Brandon will focus more on the battery?
I do not think. For years now we play and we found our balance. Marc Brandon and I sing and it helps us with the choirs. That's fine.
Another thing you will notice the new album is the change log in the themes of the texts: the texts you have left loads of anger for something more focused on life experiences or socio-political themes.
At the end I do this "job" since I was 14, it was time to change. For this album we used a scheme of work fully different because we have written out an acoustic version. We sat there, tearing away the music and therefore I intervened with the lyrics. I think it was an excellent solution for us.
You worked with a producer that has little to do with the metal, as it was?
Actually John has a metal band that does a kind similar to Metallica. He knows how to play a band is always very active in the work. Do you know Council is very proactive and then, you did a really great bunch (laughs). I think we feel that the work of production and mixing is much better than the previous album.
Your fishing lineup largely from the new album: it went really proud!
Honestly, yes. Reflects the Atreyu now and we are satisfied with the work done. Then, beyond all this is the proper tour in support of new album in the U.S. with the Haste The Day at the Family Values \u200b\u200bThat alone had a different lineup.
A curiosity ... the English version of Lead Sails Paper Anchor is a cover of Faith No More, a band that has ever experienced and very daring: turn on your sound radical, you want to be Faith No More of 2000?
addition to that there is Clean Sheets also of Descendends ... in any case we choose the cover according to the goodness of the band and nothing else. We do not want comparisons. We are Atreyu and there with this.
I wished him a thousand other questions, but then it was literally plated by other fans and then we focused on Brandon and Marc (visit his website: http://anempireoffilth.com/thepalehorse/ ) just as nice and helpful.
